About aluminium pergolas

Aluminium pergolas are built from factory-finished posts, beams and roof panels.

They don't rot, don't need painting and come in a set range of colours. Many are sold as systems by specialist suppliers, often with louvred roofs that open and close.

They suit a modern house, a low-upkeep yard, or a space where you want to open the roof on winter days and close it in the rain. They are less flexible than timber: sizes, colours and details come from the system's range, and changes later are harder.

Our pergolas are timber, with timber, translucent or Colorbond roofs. If you are weighing up aluminium, we can talk through how it compares for your space, and whether a timber pergola with a Colorbond or translucent roof would do the same job.

Aluminium pergola types

  1. 01

    Flat and skillion

A single-slope roof of aluminium sheeting or insulated panels. Simple and tidy.

  2. 02

    Gable

A pitched roof that adds height and suits more traditional houses.

  3. 03

    Louvred roofs

Blades that tilt open for light and air and close to shed rain. Manual or motorised; motorised systems need a licensed electrician for the power.

  4. 04

    Freestanding or attached

Like timber pergolas, aluminium systems can attach to the house or stand on their own posts.

Before we price it

What to weigh up

  1. Look and fit

Aluminium has a crisp, uniform finish. Timber can be shaped, stained and scaled to match an older house or a timber deck.

  2. Upkeep

Aluminium needs a wash rather than a coat of paint. Louvre mechanisms and seals need checking from time to time.

  3. Power

Motorised louvres, lights and rain sensors need wiring by a licensed electrician.

  4. Approval

The exempt development rules apply whatever the material. Size, height, setbacks and any heritage or bush fire listing decide whether approval is needed.

  • “I've found my new carpenter! Haz did a fabulous job of doing all new balustrading on my back deck. He was very precise with his fitting and measurements and also went out of his way to help me with 2 other little jobs I needed to do before selling my house. What he did for me was a tremendous help and I'm so grateful. Look no further than Haz. He is the kindest and the best!”

  • “I would recommend Timbaland to my friends, and would try to get them again if work later comes up. We got them to do our backyard deck. And Haz has been professional and easy to deal with from the beginning. He explains the work and his pricing really well. He’s efficient and his quality of work is very commendable. Extremely happy with their work.”

Questions

What customers ask us

Do you build aluminium pergolas?

Our pergola work is timber, with timber, translucent or Colorbond roofs. If you're considering aluminium, get in touch: we can talk through the options for your space and how they compare with timber.

Is a louvred roof waterproof?

With the blades closed, most louvred systems shed rain into a built-in gutter. Heavy, wind-driven rain can still find its way through some gaps, so check the details of the system you are looking at.

Aluminium or timber: which suits my house?

Aluminium suits a modern look and low upkeep. Timber suits a custom shape, a natural look or a pergola that ties into a timber deck, and it can be re-roofed or extended later. For many decks, a timber frame with a Colorbond or translucent roof gives similar shelter.
