Building a deck in Clovelly: what we check

  1. Slope

    Much of Clovelly sits on a slope running down to Gordons Bay and Clovelly Bay. A deck on a falling block needs deeper footings, bracing and often a balustrade, so we look at the fall of the ground before we price it.

  2. Heritage

    Clovelly has no heritage conservation area, but 30 places are listed as heritage items. If your house is one, a deck can need approval it otherwise wouldn't, so we check the listing first.

  3. Approval

    Many decks in NSW are exempt development when they meet the height, size and setback limits. We tell you at the measure whether yours does; if it doesn't, approval comes from Randwick City Council or a registered certifier.
